I am a shamanic practitioner and I feel called to do more than I’m currently doing, spiritually. Right now, I do readings and healing maybe once a month, for a smallish fee. I have tried doing free readings but after a few years of this the constant demand burnt me out, as well as leaving me occasionally unsatisfied (like when people made requests purely for entertainment purposes, not taking it seriously). I’m not sure what to do next with my path. Does anyone have ideas? I don’t mind practicing for free but I can’t figure out how to do it without opening myself up to be overwhelmed again.
As we enter this season of gift-giving, I thought I’d post some ideas from my Etsy shop, Honoring Wilderness. My shop has unique hand-crafted items that would make special gifts for animal lovers or spiritual folk. I also offer reasonably-priced Spiritual Readings and Healing which is a thoughtful gift for a fellow spiritual seeker in your life. ❤
I have suffered an injury to both my eyes, to the extent that I cannot read without a magnifying glass and I had to use the accessibility options on my computer to magnify everything by 250% just to get by. I don’t have a drivers’ license but I don’t think I’d be allowed to drive even if I did. I can’t read signs, I can’t see the traffic lights, and sometimes I can’t even see cars at a certain distance. Not like they’re blurry but like they aren’t even there to my eyes.
My prognosis is unknown. It could take a couple weeks or a year or never get better. I saw the optometrist today and I’ll see him again in two months. For now I’m adjusting and trying not to be upset, but I don’t know yet how this will affect my art. I only recently started to consider myself an artist, and now I have to find new ways to see.
Shamans have been described as those who can “see in the dark.” This is what I need to learn to do, now more than ever. I used to have an uncanny ability to spot animals at night. Sometimes it was more like a psychic seeing as I wasn’t really seeing the animal in the first place. I just knew it was there.
Now more than ever I need to sharpen my other physical senses, and my spiritual senses, to navigate this world.
Etsy just rolled out their sales and coupons option, so I’m running a week-long sale on readings and healings. The price is 50% off, now only $20 (Canadian dollars).
I’m going on a spiritual vacation tomorrow and would love to do some work for others while I’m there. Please note that my internet will be limited, so I will only be able to send the full readings when I get back on the 19th.
I feel like I am presently co-existing in a past life, or like a past life is calling to me so strongly I hardly know what to do. I believe I experienced a past life as an Inuit, living on the land, a vast expanse of ice and sky…eating the food of the land, like fish and caribou. I don’t even like the idea of eating gamey meat but I can’t get the craving out of my head, it’s the oddest thing. I want to honour this life and figure out if there is anything I need to do in my life now as a result of my past life.
To try to deal with this feeling, I made an Inuit-inspired amulet necklace with polymer clay to look like bone. It’s an ancient kind of fish hook with little charms of a fish, seal, and whale.
Spirit is potential, as I explained in a previous post, but what does that mean for spiritual people?
When you recognize that spirit is infinite potential and that imagination is a direct sense of this infinite potential, it becomes clear that imagination is a direct sense of spirit itself. When you ask an indigenous shaman, such as one of the Q’ero people, how we can be sure we’re not imagining a shamanic journey (or other spirit communication), the answer you’ll likely get is, “well, so what if you are?” This is not to downplay the reality of our connection with spirit, not at all, but rather we are to respect our natural ability to communicate with spirit. The fact that this communication might occur within the realm of what we call imagination does not make it any less important or real.
What is of importance to consider is our contribution to our spirit communication. We can speak with infinite spirit beings and they can tell us infinite wisdom, so you want to make sure you aren’t only seeking out precisely what you want to hear. We each have what I call a fear self, which maintains much of our ego, and our fear selves can get in the way by imposing their fears and desires on the messages we receive. If you are afraid of being challenged, you might receive messages that pacify you. These messages are not completely false insofar as the spirit world contains infinite and all truths. However, if you are seeking to grow on your path you must be watchful that your fear self is not hindering you. And if you deliberately seek to be challenged, you certainly will be met with challenges!
Spirit being infinite potential reminds us of our own responsibilities in navigating the spirit realm. We ought to visit with clear intentions, like having a well-defined journey question before you set out. We ought to be prepared if we find anything in the journey frightening or upsetting, as it needn’t be and you cannot be harmed if you are confident and in control.
Hi all, I’m going on a camping trip Tuesday, and in honour of this I’ve lowered most of the prices on my Etsy items. Take a look if you please! I have lots of shamanic and pagan items as well as wildlife replicas. I also provide low-price spiritual readings and soul retrievals.
Sometimes you get into a dark place and feel empty, or maybe you’ve never felt connected to spirit before. Here are some practical ways to connect to spiritual perception and feel inspired.
1. First of all, don’t give in to fear. When you’re feeling down you might be afraid to seek spiritual feelings because the risk of disappointment is worse than the emptiness. You have to get over this hump and take a chance in order to feel better.
2. Remind yourself what it feels like to be inspired. If you’re feeling empty, you might be desperate to feel something good, and this will help.
Close your eyes, breathe deeply and think hard about a time when you did feel inspired or excited by something — anything. Try to replicate the feeling, the same way you can “hear” your favourite song in your mind if you want. Imagine the excited, inspired feeling in a detailed way until you can actually feel it right now, in the moment. It really is possible to simulate good feelings, like giving yourself goosebumps, which will cause a release of dopamine in the brain. This is a good thing, so practice until you get it!
3. Next, turn yourself on, spiritually. Start by working with energy. Ground yourself by pulling energy up from the earth, with two feet planted on the ground. Then push this energy up through your body and out the top of your head, cycling it back to the universe. Imagine the whole cycle flowing through you.
You can also try to see energy or auras from your own hands. When I do this, I see energy like sparks flying off my fingers. Just stare gently, slightly unfocused, and be open to feeling vision rather than physically seeing vision, if that makes sense.
4. Now you’re ready to ask spirit to help you feel or perceive something spiritual. Just put the intention out there and be open to receive.
5. Finally, follow your request up with the simplest of prayers: Breathe in, thinking thank you. Breathe out, thinking bless you. Think about the big cycle of give-and-take in the universe, and be assured that feeling connected IS possible.
Spirit works with the imagination, not against it. Our imagination is actually a direct sense of potential, which is the realm of spirit.
We waste a lot of time when we worry if we are “merely imagining” spirit messages. When we actually get in the way of spirit, it is usually our fear self who perpetuates or manifests something false. Learning to recognize our fear self is a crucial aspect of getting closer to spirit.
You can ask to meet your fear self directly to help understand it and also heal it. Offer the fear self love and comfort. Getting to know the fear self is ultimately one of the most powerful tools in your spiritual growth, so spend time with it!
In dreams, should I wonder if I am in fact dreaming, I consider the evidence before my senses and conclude that I am very much awake — only to wake up later and realize I was sleeping.
I have also heard that people often cannot interact with their environment as easily in dreams as in wakefulness, although ostensibly everything should seem easy in a dream. After all, in dreams we can fly or do all manner of impossible things, right? Yet I experience a lot of strange difficulties. I can never hit the right keys if I’m typing or tying to make a phone call within a dream. I keep trying and failing, aware that I’m not able to do it right. Why is this? If my dream-body is walking around in a dream-world completely of my own imagination, why should I encounter any difficulty? Why doesn’t my brain just dream-imagine myself hitting the right keys?
If I were to take only my own experiences of dreaming as the entire scope of evidence on the subject, as if no one had ever explained dreams to me before, I would think that they were journeys taken by my spirit to other spacetimes. I mean other realities that are very much real to those that live in them, as real as this reality is to us.
This theory means that in these dream-journeys, I am literally a ghost. This is why it is difficult to physically interact with the environment in a dream. This is why my brain insists that I am awake, really experiencing what I’m experiencing, when I am dreaming.
So maybe what I call the spirit realm is also a physical place that I merely haunt as a ghost.
Which leads me to an interesting idea: in order to be a better person, one must learn to be a better ghost. If you have ever gone on a shamanic journey, you will understand that spirit-walking is a very real experience and a powerful tool towards living a better life both physically and spiritually. But spiritual people are often humble, seeing themselves as students always, when really we are all both students and teachers simultaneously. We crave the teachings from our spirit guides — but remember, we can ourselves be ghosts. We can be spirit guides right now.
Instead of always looking for answers in the spirit world, ask how to be a teacher. In a shamanic journey, ask to be taken to someone who needs YOUR advice. I don’t mean that you should try to give advice in the regular reality, standing firmly in your physical skin, but to do so as a ghost — a spirit, an angel, a guide — and haunt other times and places, offering compassionate help. Let your spirit guides train you to be a spirit guide — it’s probably the best thing they know how to teach, after all.
Consider the healing possibilities you can provide. Remember that shamanic journeying and other forms of spirit-walking (including dreams) are beyond time and place. You can go back in time and give advice to a younger version of yourself. If you have a specific healing mission in mind, let your spirit guides know your intentions and ask for help to be a better spirit guide yourself.
Learn how to haunt yourself in the past and future. Learn how to reach out to your suffering child-self, or troubled adolescent-self, the way your spirit guides reach out to you now. Give them your love, support, hope, magic, and insights.
You can do this for other people too (if they give you permission). There are likely limitless applications of this idea that I have not yet thought of. I am still testing this theory of mine…still taking the first baby-steps towards training as a spirit guide. As I am passionate about this, I hope to embark on helping others to heal through this method.
